Product sold in popular Tennessee grocery store poses major ‘safety risk’

A popular grocery store with locations across the country, including Tennessee, has issued a recall for one of its products because it poses a major “safety risk.”

Trader Joe’s has its Scented candle “Mango Mandarin”with SKU #56879, due to a possible unexpected burn pattern. According to a press release from the company, “the candle flame may spread from the wick to the wax, causing a larger flame than expected, posing a safety hazard.”

According to a 2020 National Parks Service analysis, about 21 home fires are caused by burning candles each day across the country. Fire departments respond to over 7,600 candle fires annually, resulting in millions of dollars in property damage and an average of about 81 deaths each year. KTLA.

Anyone who purchased the candle is asked not to use it and to either throw it away or return it to a Trader Joe’s retailer for a refund. Questions can be directed to the company’s customer service department at (626) 599-3817 or via email.

This is the latest recall affecting products sold in Tennessee. Last month, several ice cream brands were recalled nationwide after they were found to pose a risk of “fatal infections.”
