Evan Battey named assistant coach of Colorado men’s basketball team

Speaking to the crowd at the CU Events Center after his final regular-season home game of 2022, Evan Battey promised that he would one day return to the Colorado men’s basketball program.

Now that day has officially arrived. Early Monday, CU announced that the Buff great is joining head coach Tad Boyle’s staff as an assistant coach/quality control analyst.

Battey played in 133 career games with the Buffs from 2017-2022 before playing professionally overseas for the past two years.

Here’s what the great Buff had to say about joining the Colorado roster:

“I bring the energy, the emotion and the experience,” Battey said in a press release. “I come from a place where, as a former player, I can empathize with the players we have now. I know what they’re going through and I can add insight and perspective. I talk to the guys a lot. I just want to make sure these guys have the best experience possible in college basketball.”

Colorado has also named CJ Armitage and Tyson Gilbert as coaches for the upcoming 2024-25 season.
