July 7, 2024 – Northwoods League (Northwoods)
Press release from the Duluth Huskies

Thanks to a strong offense and fantastic pitching, the Duluth Huskies defeated the Waterloo Bucks 12-1 at Riverfront Stadium on Saturday night.

The Huskies (20-18, 3-1) had 13 hits, while the Bucks (21-16, 2-2) had just four. They led 11-0 through six innings and were engaged the rest of the game. Perhaps they learned something from what happened just a day earlier, when they overcame a 12-0 deficit.

The Bucks scored one point in this game, but otherwise the trio consisting of Isaac Rohde (6.0 IP, 2 H, 0 R), Ian Fischer (2.0 IP, 2 H, 1 R) and Lucas Kelly (1.0 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 2 K) prevented Waterloo from attacking.

The Huskies’ attack was led by Max Coupe, who had four or more RBIs for the second time this season. He hit a two-run double in the first of three consecutive three-run innings for the Huskies in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings to clinch the game.

Joshua Duarte played his best game as a Huskie again this year, recording three RBIs and a stolen base, reaching first base in three of his six batting appearances and being productive in the ones he didn’t.

Jake Downing also had multiple RBIs for the Huskies, going 2 of 6 on the day. Charlie Sutherland and Boots Landry rounded out the Huskies with multiple hits.

Next

The win puts the Huskies in first place in the Great Plains East heading into the second half. They next return home to face the Thunder Bay Border Cats, the team currently tied with them. First pitch on Sunday night is scheduled for 5:05 p.m.
